Mattyongames is a blog about videogames, it’s a simple as that. I originally came up with the idea for this blog about nine years ago (ie 2000 at the time of writing) when I thought it would be a good idea to create an “internet site” where I could post articles about videogames, given that, possibly quite tragically, they’re one of my favourite subjects.
In the Autumn of 2008 I finally got to setting the thing up and dived straight in with a series of articles about platform games based on Jet Set Willy. I’ve never really looked back since. When I started this blog I’d hoped to try and focus on independent videogames of the ’80s and ’90s but, in the end, I seem to write about whatever takes my fancy. My only real “rule” is that I try and avoid covering games everyone else has covered ad nauseum, so there’ll be no article about Sonic the Hedgehog (although in no small part that’s because I can’t stand the little blue bastard).
Part of the reason I write this blog is to discourage myself from talking about these sorts of things in casual conversation. Seriously. Doubtless most of my friends are very relieved as a result. One of these days I’ll have to do one about history for much the same reason.
In real-life I’m an unemployed, thirtysomething Scot who’d like to be a writer but is happy just for someone to pay me wages.
